JONATHAN KNIGHT
Everything All At Once
Jonathan Knight is an internationally-awarded, self-taught photographic artist originally from Wichita, Kansas. Now based in Denver, Colorado, the wide open vistas and empty spaces of his childhood continue to inspire his reductive black-and-white photographs, described as "stunningly spare and surreal." *
His longing to explore the emotional layers of human experience propelled him towards long-exposure photography. This process has the effect of stripping away the “visual noise” to reveal a world that, while very real, is not experienced visually. Jonathan explains, “We feel it. We sense it. With my camera, I capture a world that is not static but continuous, harnessing emotion and time in one image. In this way, though abstract, my photographs represent a more accurate vision of reality. They depict time itself, where everything felt can be seen all at once.”
Jonathan’s minimalist style urges a visual dialogue between photographer and viewer, where viewers construction scenes in their mind’s eye. He suggests, “it invites both mental and physical interaction and more careful viewing. My images become deeply personal encounters, drawing from what is depicted while adding their own imagination and interpretation.”
Knight's photography is devoid of digital manipulation or orchestration. He relies on the natural interplay of light and time, employing digital editing techniques akin to traditional darkroom methods to refine his vision. His work is authentic and timeless.
Jonathan’s work has been exhibited worldwide and has garnered over two dozen international awards, including "Photographer of the Year" in a prestigious global competition for his collection Waterfalls. His work is displayed in public and private collections around the world.
